Covid lesson responseBecause of COVID 19 the way lessons are conducted will change. Below is an overview of what might be different and what will be expected of you. Before every lesson : The car will be sanitised before you get in We won’t get into the car straight away. From a distance (min 2m) we will have a brief conversation so I can assess whether you appear to be well enough to continue or if you have any symptoms in line with Covid 19, such as a cough or look like you may have a high temperature, If I am not 100% happy with your state of health I will not start the lesson and will postpone it until you have recovered. We reserve the right to check everyone's temperature before they enter the car using a non contact thermometer I will ask you to place all of your belongings into the boot, apart from any medication or asthma inhalers that you need to have with you at all times Any outerwear such as your jacket/jumper/bag must be contained in the boot to prevent the risk of spreading infection, No personal items such as phones or keys will be allowed in the door pockets or trays in the front of the car If you have any symptoms of Coronavirus such as a cough or a high temperature – find out more here: www.nhs.uk/ conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms-and-what-to-do I will ask if you have been in contact with anyone that is showing symptoms. If you or anyone you have been in contact with have recently travelled from a high risk region. It is important that you answer these questions honestly as you do not want to put me or any of my other pupils at risk. This will also avoid the lesson being cancelled halfway through if it is apparent that you are not well enough, which may have financial implications to you. I will also ask if you washed your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, in line with government guidance, immediately before leaving the house or place of work. I will also advise you that: There will be no handshakes I will be keeping the windows open at all times and wear appropriate clothing to help stop the possible spread of infection if paying for the lesson by cash please have the correct amount as i will not be carrying change. Use other methods of payment such as a bank transfer, for example, but we can chat about this During the lesson The lesson content and structure will remain the same as before. I will make sure the lesson has client-centred aims and objectives and is appropriate for you. If you have had previous lessons you may find that we will initially go back to areas that you have covered before as it may have been a considerable amount of time since your last lesson so I will need to reassess where you are. I will also advise you that: • Any writing will be done by me, if you need to write anything in car please bring your own pen. • Disposable seat covers may be used to help prevent the spread of the virus. • Training resources will not passed between the two of us to avoid contact. • We should try to avoid directly facing each other when discussing scenarios, as per the advice from the Government’s Chief Medical Officer. • If I need to provide a demonstration drive, I will need to wipe down the controls before and after. I will sanitise my hands and/or change gloves just before and after the demo drive • If at any time during the lesson I need touch any controls i.e. steering wheel, handbrake., gear stick etc. I will immediately use anti-bacterial wipes to clean the area that has been touched. • The windows will be open to some degree for ventilation, even in wet weather. In hot temperatures the air conditioning may not be used. • Discussions during the lesson may be held outside of the car, which is a little different to what you have been used to. Personal Protective Equipment The C-19 virus can be spread through contact points and air-borne droplets and so personal protective equipment will be used. Gloves - you can use these providing they do not impede the safety and handling of the vehicle, if you wish to use gloves you will have to supply your own due to allergies to materials that you may have. Face coverings/masks - you will need to bring your own clean face covering/mask to every lesson as the lesson will not proceed if you do not bring one. The Department for Health have advised us all to look ahead when in conversation and not look at each other. After the lesson: Once the session is finished take your gloves with you and dispose of your gloves safely and wash your hands thoroughly for a minimum of 20 seconds. It may be advisable for you to change all of your clothes on return to your home and wash them to help protect your household and remember if you have used a reusable mask make sure you wash it in accordance with the manufacturers and health service guidance ready for your next lesson. The Practical Driving Test There have been some changes with how the theory and practical driving tests are being conducted. I can discuss these with you. For practical tests, I will not be able to accompany you during the test and we will need to wait outside of the test centre as the waiting rooms cannot reopen currently due to social distancing rules. Toilet facilities (where available) have restrictions in place so do not expect that all toilets will be open. It will be mandatory to wear a face covering during the test. The DVSA must be told at the time of booking the test if you have a condition that prevents you from wearing a mask or the test will not go ahead. I will be allowed to listen to the debrief with you and the examiner at the end of your test if you ask the examiner and as long as social distancing can be maintained. The contents of the test in terms of manoeuvres etc has not changed. If you have any questions please ask because our safety and health is our top priority. |
